I took my date to Annandale Hotel for lunch on Parramatta Road. It’s usually quiet for lunch at noon, even on weekends. It was noon. But the kitchen was not open for another five minutes. I took my date to the beer garden. We found a table and waited.

The menu was Burgers by Josh. I don’t know Josh. But the Burgers were made by him. After some discussion I decided to have “The Scorpio” and my date decided to have the “J Burger”. “The Scorpio” was a fried chicken burger with coleslaw and jalapeños. The “J Burger” was a beef burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles.

After a while we agreed the kitchen must be open by now. I went to order. In the meantime a queue had formed.

I waited in the queue to order. My date waited at the table.

Josh or his burgers must be very popular. Unless everybody was there by accident. But that seemed unlikely. I was hungry from waiting. When I ordered the burgers I added onion rings. I also ordered a beer and a white wine. The beer was for me. The wine was for my date. I’d be a pretty lousy date if I sat there with a beer and drank it while my date was thirsty.

After I ordered I had a buzzer.

I put the buzzer on the table with my date and the drinks. I put the buzzer next to me. I’d be a pretty lousy date if the buzzer went off and my date grabbed it and fetched the food and I just sat there like a lousy date.

I talked to my date while we waited. We agreed we were both hungry. When the buzzer went off I grabbed it and went to get the the burgers and onion rings. I came back and we ate them all straight away. I let my date taste “The Scorpio”. I wanted to say “it’s hot” because the burger was hot but I thought she might think I was saying “you’re hot” and it  was only lunchtime. My date doesn’t like hot food.

The burgers were large. There was a lot of sauce. I used several napkins because the sauce was on my hands. I handed a napkin to my date too. I’d be a pretty lousy date if I hogged all the napkins.

After we ate and cleaned our hands we left Annandale Hotel.

The food was OK.

 

I had lunch at Watergrill in Abbotsford. Watergrill is in the Sydney Rowing Club. There is a nearby ferry wharf. But it was raining so I drove. It was early and there were still car spots left.

The entrance had some sort of traffic cones in front.

The Sydney Rowing Club is opening a new dining venue called The Smoking Goat on Thursday the 28th of April. But I was there on Saturday so it wasn’t open yet.

The Watergrill has a view of Parramatta River. But I didn’t get a photo of that.

I had to decide what to order. The menu had a Veal Schnitzel. But I don’t eat Veal Schnitzel.

I thought about having a burger or maybe chicken or maybe steak. There was pasta on the other side of the menu. Sometimes I eat Chicken Schnitzel but there was no Chicken Schnitzel on the menu. There was a Veal Schnitzel but I don’t eat Veal Schnitzel.

I thought I would decide what to order on the way to the counter. There was a special. Maybe I would order the special. Walking past another table on the way to the counter I noticed that the menu was different. There were two different menus.

The other menu had a Chicken Schnitzel. Did they have a Chicken Schnitzel? Or did they have a Veal Schnitzel?

I ordered a Chicken Schnitzel. The Chicken Schnitzel came with chips, salad and mushroom sauce. It also came with a slice of lemon. The lemon wasn’t mentioned on the menu.

I also had a glass of wine.

Later I ordered a dessert. Not because I wanted something sweet but because it was Saturday and why not. Also, the desserts were on display at the ordering counter and when I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel I saw them and I thought to myself “I’m going to order a dessert.”

The dessert was a Summer Berry Sponge. It’s Autumn now but I guess it’ll be Summer again soon.

I also had a coffee.

The food was OK.

This morning I did something different. I went to Brooklyn Hide. It’s on Commonwealth Street in Surry Hills. They make Bagels.

The menu has a lot of Bagels on it. Some are savoury. Some are sweet. This morning I felt like something sweet. Not that I’m sweet or anything. But I wanted something sweet.

I got an everything bagel with marmalade on it. An everything bagel has different seeds on top. Marmalade is like jam with fruit peel.

I also got a large long black coffee.

I ate the bagel at my desk. Followed by the coffee. I drank the coffee. I put the bag that the bagel came in inside the coffee cup when I was finished.

The food was OK.
